Griensteidl Cafe was opened by Heinrich Griensteidl in 1846 on the Michaeler Square right across from the Hofburg and the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. In 1848 it temporarily adopted the name of "National Cafe". Soon after its opening it became the favourite meeting place of illustrious personalities of Viennese cultural life. In the "Griensteidl" you can drink your "kleiner Brauner", which is the Austrian version for a small espresso with milk or have a light meal in a very pleasant atmosphere. 'At the Black Camel' is a Viennese institution that's been around since 1618. It is a combination of deli/sandwich shop and highbrow wine bar. The best and cheapest way of experiencing it is to have a selection of the open face sandwiches and a glass of wine or champagne while standing in the middle of the crowded deli. For more substantial fare at a higher price, head next door to the main restaurant with its wood-paneled décor. This is a second home to many Viennese. Smart Casual / ElegantPhone: +43 (1) 533 10 33

If you are in the mood for a quick pasta, pizza or salad in a self-service restaurant that manages to be both casual and sophisticated, this is the right place for you. A preponderance of olive trees adds a Mediterranean flair. Chains aren't everyone's best friend, but Vapiano looks set to skip the love to hate list, and land straight in the ranks of the genuinely loved. Give it a try. Modern casualPhone: +43 (1) 22740 1170
