The award winning winery, Schloss Gobelsburg is sponsoring the wines for the gala dinner. The oldest history of the winery goes back to pre-Celtic times. The first documented mention was in 1064. In 1171 Cistercian monks came from Burgundy and cultivated the vineyards which still belong to the estate. Since 1996 the castle and vineyard have been managed by Eva and Michael Moosbrugger, FALSTAFF vintners of the year 2006.
The most important grape varieties are Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, the ones that do best on this land. Riesling thrives on the poor and stony terraces of Heiligenstein and Gaisberg, Grüner Veltliner on the sandy loess of Steinsetz, Renner, Grub and Lamm.
Schloss Gobeslburg has always had its own huge wine cellar underneath the chateau. The oldest sections were dug in the 12th century.
The aim of Schloss Gobelsburg is to allow authentic wines to develop rather than producing wines that are as unified as possible. The character of its wines is marked by individuality and origin and has obtained some of them ratings of up to 95 points in Parker’s Wine Advocate.
